Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the team access places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
